About Lisbon

Lisbon is one of Europe's sunniest capital cities, situated on seven hills at he right bank of the estuary of the Tagus River that flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

Being a melting pot of different architectural styles and without lacking illumination, a walk through Lisbon's grid of long cobblestoned avenues and streets is a unique experience. Its beautifully blue sky transforms the Portuguese capital into a true palette of colours, highlighting the city's contrasts, the heritage monuments, numerous belvederes and characteristic old neighbourhoods, a genuine world apart.

A list of places to visit spans a wide range, from the monumental zone of Belém, Castelo de São Jorge, to the modern area of the Parque das Nações (Expo) .  As night falls, the city movement shifts towards areas of Baixa, Chiado and, especially, Bairro Alto.  Many beautiful beaches are easily accessible by public transport.  Another option could be  charming Sintra, around 30 km away from the city, with a visit to Cabo da Roca,  a cape  which is the westernmost point of  (mainland)  Europe, or the coastal town of Cascais.

Regarding gastronomy, there is a large variety, from seafood and fresh grilled fish and Mediterranean-like cuisine, to heavy traditional meat dishes. Being a cosmopolitan city, Lisbon offers a number of multi-national cuisine restaurants.
